Somuncurá Project (Epithermal Gold-Silver and Intrusive-Related Systems)
Location and Access
Prospectivity and Exploration Target
The project covers three areas within a large, underexplored volcanic terrane with multiple styles of mineralisation. Historical drilling in two areas, Caltrauna intersected both disseminated and structurally controlled gold–silver mineralisation, including:
- 32m @ 1.97 g/t Au from 82m (Hole RTC19)
- 46m @ 1.5 g/t Au from 4m (Hole RTC09)
Recent work has identified a vertically zoned hydrothermal system at Caltrauna, where epithermal mineralisation overlies deeper molybdenite-bearing quartz–sulphide veining, suggesting a potential link to a concealed porphyry system.
In the third area, El Bagual, a >5 km structural corridor hosts quartz–chalcedony veins with rock-chip grades up to 33 g/t Au and 1,786 g/t Ag. Vein textures and zonation have been observed that indicate boiling-related processes, with northern zones considered highly prospective for shallow high-grade gold mineralisation.
Collectively, the project hosts multiple mineralising systems at different levels of exposure, offering both near-surface discovery potential and deeper intrusive-related upside.
Proposed Exploration Program
Exploration will focus on systematic drilling (2500m) of priority targets supported by additional geophysics, targeting:
- High-grade epithermal vein systems, particularly at El Bagual; and
- Shallow epithermal gold and deeper intrusive-related mineralisation at Caltrauna.
Multiple drill targets are being advanced across district
Caltrauna
- Drilled gold system: Intercepts include 32m @ 1.97 g/t Au and 19m @ 1.3 g/t Au
- Multiple styles: Disseminated and structurally controlled Au–Ag mineralisation
- System scale: Vertically zoned hydrothermal system
- Deeper potential: Epithermal overprint on molybdenite-bearing quartz–sulphide veining suggests intrusive source at depth
El Bagual
- District-scale corridor: >5km structural trend
- High-grade surface results: Rock chips up to 33 g/t Au and 1,786 g/t Ag
- Epithermal veining: Quartz–chalcedony vein systems
- Exploration upside: Largely untested with strong surface expression
